The June 2008 issue of Auto Remarketing magazine featured the launch of TestFirst Hiring from Reynolds as an easy-to-use solution that offers a number of benefits for dealerships.
Following are excerpts from the article, which quotes Terry Sheridan, product planning manager at Reynolds and Reynolds.

Hiring and retaining qualified employees who best fit the position is one of the toughest ongoing jobs that dealerships face, and Reynolds and Reynolds is marketing a pre-employment diagnostic tool that helps take the guesswork out of evaluating prospective employees.
TestFirst Hiring is a low-cost assessment and screening tool that equips dealers and managers with the ability to test every job applicant efficiently, effectively, and economically before any interviews takes place.
Not only does TestFirst Hiring help dealerships cut through the maze of unqualified people looking for a job and identify the best-matched candidates… the tool also provides dealership specially targeted interview questions to further narrow the field.
Once the correct person is hired for that job, TestFirst Hiring also provides detailed information tailored to the individual about how to follow up with appropriate post-hiring training that will help the person succeed on the job.
“Typically, most dealerships do not have specially trained human resource directors to find and hire the most qualified people and then where to go from there once they are hired,” explained Terry Sheridan, manager of product planning at Reynolds and Reynolds.
“By using tools such as TestFirst Hiring, dealerships will not only identify people that will be the best fit for the jobs at the dealership, they will also hire those that will be the most successful at that job, who in turn will be the happiest in that job, which will lead to the likelihood that they will stay longer and be more productive. Ultimately, all of this contributes to the bottom line of the dealership,” Sheridan further pointed out.
One of the long-term benefits of TestFirst Hiring, Sheridan said, is that it will enable dealerships to attack an age-old dilemma that he said is tragically becoming status quo across the auto industry.
“What I’m trying to do, as are others at Reynolds and Reynolds, is educate dealers that a 50- to 70-percent employee turnover rate at dealerships, which for some stores is even higher, is not acceptable,” Sheridan emphatically stated. “While they struggle with this problem, too many have accepted it as the norm because that’s the way it’s always been.”
But Sheridan was quick to add that this bedeviling rate does not have to be permanent.
“The challenging environment that we find ourselves in today, where automotive sales are down and the economy is not performing as we’d like it to be, requires that dealerships have good, productive employees,” Sheridan continued.
“TestFirst will enable stores to make educated decisions about hiring so they can get the right and best person the first time,” he concluded.
